Companion Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
A Companion is a non-licensed member of the Home Care Team who assists the client with the tasks of daily living. They provide companionship and monitor client safety. Performs routine household tasks as assigned in a written Care Plan such as meals preparation, shopping, errands and accompany the client to appointments.
This position is supervised by Manager, Client Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to effectively communicate with client and carry out instructions
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be Friendly, Caring, Patient & Reliable
- First Aid, CPR, Certification or Patient Care Training
- Ability to physically perform job duties and keep up with the demands of the job.
- Must be able to follow direction and accurately report issues to supervisor
- Must exhibit mature, responsible behavior and support client confidentiality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities of the Companion may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide light housekeeping for client, such as change bed linens, dusting, cleaning
vacuuming, mopping, laundry, kitchen & bathroom upkeep & house organization
- Assist with preparing and serving meals and/or snacks.
- Record and report changes in the client’s physical condition, behavior, or appearance to
Supervisor or Agency Office Administrator.
- Document services delivered in accordance with New Day Home Care Agency policy in the
Client Care Service Delivery Logbook.
- Engage clients with gentle activities including short walks, puzzle, board games
- Accompany client with shopping & errands and community events
- Assist client with planning recreational activities to maintain active schedule
- . Maintain open communication with client to ensure their needs are met and their environment is safe & clean
COMPANION MAY NOT:
- Administer or pour medication as mandated by law.
- Cut the fingernails or toenails of client
- Perform any personal care for the patient including toileting, hair care, oral hygiene, bathing, and grooming.
- Have any unsupervised access to any Client’s personal information, financial and banking info, debit and/or credit cards, etc.
